Rebecca Windjack (Birthday Cake, Canada)

Rebecca Windjack is an artist manager and director of artist relations at Birthday Cake; a Winnipeg MB based artist management, record label and publishing company working with some of Canada’s top artists including The Brothers Landreth, Leith Ross, Royal Canoe, Begonia, Field Guide, Mouraine and so many more. Rebecca has been working in arts, entertainment and culture for over 14 years. Beginning with stints in radio, film, television, and documentary research work, she ultimately pursued her passion for music business upon accepting a role as program and education coordinator for Saskatchewan’s provincial music association, SaskMusic. In 2016 she moved to Hamburg Germany to join indie record label Devil Duck Records for a year of international experience in independent label operations, artist relations and communications, booking and marketing live shows, and tour management. Upon returning to Canada in 2017 she was hired by Pandyamonium management (Serena Ryder, Dear Rouge, Alejandra Ribera) in Toronto. In 2018 she was approached by Saskatchewan rock legends The Sheepdogs and stepped in as day-to-day manager for the newly self managed band to execute the release of their album “Changing Colours”. In 2020, Windjack joined the management team at Birthday Cake and signed her first two clients; folk inspired singer songwriter Leith Ross, and Edmonton bred rap and hip hop artist Mouraine. In the past two years she has played an integral role in the development of both her clients, including the signing of Leith Ross to Republic records (UMG) and Secretly Canadian Publishing (SCG). In 2022 Rebecca was invited to join the advisory board for Music Canada, the representative and advocate for Canada’s major label ecosystem. Over the years Rebecca has been invited to share her experience as a panel speaker at industry events, a mentor for Canada’s Music Incubator programs, and a juror for the JUNO Awards, SOCAN Foundation,Western Canadian Music Awards, Manitoba Music, SaskMusic, and Music BC. She has found great fulfillment and purpose in creating and holding space for alternative approaches in the music business, with a focus on equity, accountability, and community.
