Colonel Dax

Hey! I’m Tom and I make music. But Tom is far too normal a name for a guy who makes music, so I pretend that the music is made by some entity by the name of Colonel Dax.

In early 2016, I thought “hey, I’ve got 3 friends who play music – I bet they’d be able to help me play my stuff live!” …and they thought so too. So now Colonel Dax consists of me and my pals Billy, Alex and Anna.

We released our first album The White Room Sessions in September 2016. It was a veritable hodgepodge of homeless songs I’d been writing and recording on the side over the years, during the conception of some much larger projects. When I gathered my 11 favourites together I noticed the combination of them served as an interesting chronicle of my early 20s, and it was about time I released something – so I did. Two of the tracks: The Bug and Hello, Mrs. Entity received radio airplay, and the video for The Changing Man garnered somewhat widespread attention online, for better or worse – you decide xD

Our 2nd album, thisisnotadream was due to be released in December 2017, but a dodgy mix hindered this. The remix is long overdue, but I have since been committed to a Masters degree in Bangor University – the project being the 3rd Colonel Dax album: Waiting Room. Once this is complete, the 2nd album will be remixed and released hopefully in December 2019, with the 3rd album released shortly afterward, and the 4th (‘539) after that. But let’s not get too ahead of ourselves.

At the end of 2018 we released a charity single for Movember. It has received radio airplay and all of the BandCamp proceeds will go to the Movember Foundation and the Campaign Against Living Miserably.

As a live band we have been relatively prolific in local pubs and small festival line-ups in North Wales (we’re from Wrexham, by the way xD). Our line-up consists of: Billy Evans on guitar, vocals and percussion. Myself (Tom Hughes) on drums, vocals, keyboards and the occasional bit of guitar. Alex Hunt on guitar, vocals and the occasional keyboard. Anna Silver on bass guitar, vocals and keyboard.
