Happy fans + contented artists = successful festival. But what do they both really want from a festival? And what would their dream festival include? Well it’s getting close to the season for giving gifts, so we thought we’d offer you an early present with the news that Gulp will be performing at FOCUS Wales 2013!
Gulp are based in Cardiff, Wales. Guto is the bass player in Super Furry Animals, and more recently toured with Sonic Boom’s Spectrum and psych-folk legend Mark Fry. Lindsey came from Scotland to Wales to study art. She currently creates music, songs and images and has previously played solo song and guitar based shows. They are joined by Gid Goundrey on guitar and Jonny Gumbo on drums to enrich a sound which has been described as cinematic, dazzling and hypnotic. READ MORE

MAN WITHOUT COUNTRY, MICHAEL ROTHER,
CHARLOTTE CHURCH, MOJA, JOHN LAWRENCE,
GALLOPS, and WE ARE ANIMAL
among the first acts announced for Focus Wales 2013!
We’re very excited that among the first acts announced for Focus Wales 2013 is one of the most exciting emerging new bands from Wales - the amazing Man Without Country! From stormy to subtle, swooning to haunting, scorching to soothing, Man Without Country are many things. Yet they stand alone in modern music.
Also performing at Focus Wales 2013 is the legendry Michael Rother! Founder member of Harmonia and of course NEU! Michael Rother's influence and importance spans the decades, from the birth of 'Kosmische Musik' in 1970s Germany, to celebrated collaborations with Brian Eno, John Frusciante, Josh Klinghoffer and Steve Shelley.
Charlotte Church - This is Charlotte Church. The first EP, ‘ONE’, is being self-released. It sounds like heart-break and hope, jubilation and righteousness. It probably sounds like some bands you’ve heard of. It also sounds like nothing you’ve heard before. It is the sound of 26 years of learning, listening and living. This is Charlotte Church.
Moja - Hailing from Tokyo, Moja have received attention from festivals and music fans across the globe for their explosive live shows! and having made a huge impression supporting The Whip at FW 2012, we’re very excited to announce that the band will be returning for a very special show as part of Focus Wales 2013!
Gallops - Evoking imagery of retro videogame dystopias and B-movie horror soundtracks; it’s fair to say that Welsh instrumentalists Gallops are a band whose music transcends the sum of their basic components. After supporting bands such as Deerhunter and Battles, Gallops followed up with shows at SXSW and the release of double A-side single 'Joust/Eukodol' in Spring 2011. Their debut LP 'Yours Sincerely, Dr. Hardcore' is available from 10/12/12.
John Lawrence - As a founding member of Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci, John Lawrence epitomised their unbridled approach to music. Since leaving the band in 1999, however, he’s kept under the radar, painstakingly recording his new works in his Snowdonia studios. His music has been described as stylistically like a lost, vintage CSNY album, with aching pedal steel, dense acoustic guitars and heart-rending, uplifting vocals. Witness John Lawrence performing a very special and intimate show as part of Focus Wales 2013!
We Are Animal - Natives of the mountainous region of Snowdonia in North Wales, We Are Animal are a beast you can’t afford to ignore. Their debut album ‘Idolise’ was released via Japanese label ‘Art Union’ who picked up on the band through hearing their demo’s online, and was subsequently nominated for XFM’s ‘best new music of 2011’. On the road, the band have played Radio 1’s big weekend, SXSW, as well as sold out shows in both France and Italy, not to mention an array of British festivals. Additionally, NME, XFM, and Artrocker have all praised the band over the last year.
Sŵnami - This exciting new band from Dolgellau, North Wales, have made a big early impression in Wales with their debut releases; the ‘Mynd a Dod’ & ‘Eira’ singles. Sŵnami are ones to watch next year, and we’re very happy to announce that the band will be making their Focus Wales debut in 2013!
Also announced are a collection of the most exciting emerging Canadian new music makers, all set for ‘Canadian Sounds Explode! @ Focus Wales 2013!’ Including:
Mise En Scene | Darren Eedens | Ingrid Gatin | Mushy Callahan | The Noble Thiefs
SŴNAMI - Thursday 25th April
