Ortense Blue

Ortense Blue is a songwriter and singer with a dark, indie folk style. Her sound has been described as a ‘folky Goldfrapp’ a blend of Suzanne Vega, Julee Cruise and Agnes Obel. She studied visual & performing arts, creative writing, and singing/songwriting – the latter at Leeds College of Music, and has been involved in songwriting collaborations since 2013. She has co-written with several artists and writers, including Michael Garvin, the songwriter behind hits such as George Benson’s ‘Never give up on a good thing’ and Jennifer Lopez’s ‘Waiting for tonight’. She has had songs commended in the UK Songwriting Contest and had two songs played by BBC Introducing in both Leeds, and Shropshire. She describes herself as a writer of story-based songs with atmosphere, and also plays guitar, ukulele, keyboards and percussion. Ortense Blue’s debut EP ‘safe to make a sound’ was released on 22th September 2017.
