Tom Watson (Labour Party)


Tom Watson is Deputy Leader of the Labour Party and MP for West Bromwich East. Tom first folded Labour Party leaflets in the family kitchen in Kidderminster at the age of seven and has been involved in every single General Election since then. His first job with the Labour Party was as a trainee library assistant. As a student Tom moved the resolution to set up Young Labour in 1992 and was elected National Chair of Labour Students. Tom worked in the trade union movement until 2001 when he was elected Labour MP for West Bromwich East. Tom served as a Minister for Tony Blair and worked at the very heart of Downing Street with Gordon Brown. During his time in parliament. In September 2015 Tom was elected as Labour’s Deputy Leader and appointed the post of Shadow Secretary of State for Digital Culture Media and Sport. Since then Tom has since established major projects including The Future of Work Commission the Gambling Addiction Review which has led public policy reform around the betting industry and is currently setting up an independent commission into tackling obesity and stemming the rise of type
