Derick Mackinnon (Off Axis / New Found Sound)


Derick Mackinnon co-runs revolutionary new touring and gig swapping network Off Axis. They book their own festival stages at Kendal Calling (England), XpoNorth (Scotland) and organise concerts in over 83 towns and cities throughout the UK.

Beginning his career as a musician, Derick formed his own agency New Found Sound in 2006, (artist-friendly live music promoter and marketing company) and was one of the founders of Edinburgh conference / showcase festival Wide Days.

With over 11 years experience as a music journalist, he currently co-writes a weekly feature on emerging bands in the Scotland On Sunday newspaper.

He learned much of his trade working for music entrepreneur Keren McKean (Snow Patrol, Electric Fields Festival, Big Life Management), producing experiential music marketing campaigns, programming festivals and managing tours for brands such as; Miller Genuine Draft, Guinness and Kopparberg.

In addition to managing Off Axis, he’s the Marketing Manager at Scottish Music Centre, a membership organisation with two youth music projects for 14-19 year olds interested in music – Hit The Road and Musicplus+
